M. Cathleen Kaveny

Prof. Cathleen Kaveny of Notre Dame Law School has focused her work on the relationship between law and morality. She has explored this relationship in case law in her course “Justice and Mercy”, as well as in her studies of the issues of euthanasia, assisted suicide, and medical ethics more generally.

Prof. Kaveny has recently been a senior fellow at the Martin Marty Center at the University of Chicago. She serves on the steering committee for the Catholic Common Ground Initiative, established by the late Cardinal Bernadin to help overcome divisions within the Catholic Church. Currently, she also serves on President-elect Obama’s National Catholic Advisory Committee.
